If you're an car enthusiast or you keep up with our Kia blog then you probably already know about Kia's commitment to providing very safe vehicles to its customers. Here at Kia of Waldorf, we take our brands commitment to safety to heart and provide the Alexandra and Woodbridge communities with very safe vehicles.

What is the most important aspect of a vehicle? Is it fuel-efficiency, comfort or performance? While all these aspects come standard in our 2013 Kia Optima, an aspect some customers answered is safety. Well for those of you who did, you're in luck. Our favorite sedan recently earned the highest possible safety rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and was deemed a, "Top Safety Pick+".

In order for a vehicle to even be considered for the most stringent and newest award from the IIHS, it must pass the moderate overlap front, small overlap front, side, rollover and rear crash tests. While undergoing these crash tests a vehicle must then receive a "Good" rating in four out five of the tests with one of them being in small overlap test. Additionally, qualifying vehicles can only receive one "Acceptable" rating. Of course our 2013 Kia Optima passed with flying colors and we couldn't be prouder.

The new "Top Safety Pick+" distinction focuses a lot more on the small overlap crash test. In the small overlap crash test, the test vehicle travels 40 mph toward a 5-foot-tall barrier where 25% of the total width of vehicle strikes the barrier on the driver's side. This crash test checks to see if the wheel will be forced backwards into the wheel well and damage the driver's feet.

If you have any questions or would like to learn more about the five crash tests, please give us a call at (888)530-4237. If you are in the market for a new or used Kia, we will work with you and help assess your needs and find you the perfect vehicle. We are located at 3188 Crain Highway in Waldorf, MD 20603. We hope to see you soon!
