It's not quite enough that Kia produces such efficient and reliable vehicles; the South Korean automaker is now in the game of recognizing and rewarding philanthropy too. Specifically, NBA Player, Pau Gasol recently took home an award in recognition of his community service work from Kia, and Kia of Waldorf, serving Waldorf, has the inside scoop for you.

The specific name of the award that Gasol won is the "Kia Community Assist Award," and it's given out to those who, as is inscribed on the award itself, commit to "following the standard set by NBA Legend David Robinson who improved the community piece by piece."1

And what other perks come along with winning the award, you ask? For Gasol, the satisfaction of knowing that he's done some amazing work to earn it. Aside from forging an important relationship between the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and Grifols, a Barcelona-based global health care company, he's also spent three years as a 'Hoops for St. Jude' ambassador to benefit patients of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Oh, you meant for the children? In presenting Gasol with the award, Kia has pledged to donate $25,000 on Gasol's behalf to Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

Of course, some of you out there may be wondering why Gasol is so dedicated to aiding in the fight for Children's health. His passion, in fact, stems from the fact that he used to be a medical student before entering the world of professional basketball. In other words, it's a cause that he's as passionate about as he is about the game he plays.
