Just recently, Kia showed off their first pure-electric production vehicle as well as a brand-new, zero-emissions concept vehicle for the 2012 Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas, NV. The new production EV is going to be called the Kia Ray, while the zero-emissions concept vehicle is named the Kia Naimo. Even better, both vehicles are engineered with leading-edge lithium polymer battery packs.
The Kia Ray will be fitted with a 50-kW electric motor as well as the previously mentioned polymer battery. The Ray can drive for up to 86 miles on a single charge. What's more impressive is that the EV can be fully charged using a 220V outlet in as little as 25 minutes and its lithium polymer battery has roughly a 10-year lifespan. In short, it exceeds all expectations and blows the competition out of the wayer.
The most exciting part of this news about the Kia Ray is perhaps that it's a North-American debut of the vehicle, because it represents the South Korean's first-ever production EV and suggests consumers don't have long to wait for it to hit Kia dealership showrooms. Unfortunately for now, production numbers remain limited and are reserved exclusively for the South Korean government.
As for the Kia Naimo, also unveiled to North American consumers, at the 2012 Consumer Electronics show in Vegas, it represents a lot more than a new, zero-emissions car. Complete with User Centered Driving (UCD) telematics, it offers invaluable insight into exactly what Kia might bring to drivers in terms of safety, media, entertainment and connectivity features, in the future. Among the many features UCD promises are color night vision and a clearer, larger tough screen.
