The Tire Pressure Light: A Light For Safety

Maintaining the proper amount of air pressure in your vehicle's tires is an important part of maintaining a safe vehicle. Tires that are overinflated or underinflated are at higher risk of blowouts and other problems. But thankfully, there is a light on your dashboard that will illuminate when your tire does not have the proper pressure. But do you know why tires don't maintain their pressure?

Tires lose pressure for a variety of reasons, including a slow leak. But they can also lose pressure when the temperature of the air changes. When the weather gets colder, the air molecules inside the tire contract, causing your tire to lose pressure. Tire pressure also lessens naturally with time, so it's not uncommon to need to refill a tire even if there's nothing wrong.
